The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field, moving within one game of winning their first World Series title. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak in the series and gave the visitors a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven matchup.

The decisive moment arrived in the fifth inning when Milwaukee scored eight runs. The Brewers recorded seven consecutive hits, all with two outs, to build an 8-0 lead. This marked the first time in World Series history that a team scored eight two-out runs in a single inning. The rally was fueled by strong contact hitting and a defensive error by the Rays.

Jackson Chourio led the offensive charge with four hits in five at-bats, including a double. He also stole second base to begin the run. Brice Turang contributed a two-run single after a replay review overturned a force out at second base. William Contreras and Garrett Mitchell also reached base during the surge. Sal Frelick and Cooper Pratt added two-run doubles to close out the inning.

Robert Gasser, a rookie left-hander, anchored the pitching staff. He threw a one-hit complete through six innings, facing the minimum number of batters. Gasser allowed a single to Yandy Diaz in the first inning before retiring 14 batters in a row. He became the first starter to face the minimum 18 batters through six innings of a World Series game since Curt Schilling in 2001. He is also the first left-hander to achieve this since Sandy Koufax in 1965.

The Rays relied on Griffin Jax to start Game 4 on Tuesday, while the Brewers have not yet announced their starter. Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash acknowledged the difficulty of the deficit. "It's kind of that chip and a chair mentality," Cash said. "We've got a seat at the table. We've got to do something with the chip. Obviously the only thing we can do is win tomorrow."

Milwaukee's victory extended their winning streak to eight games, tying the Major League record for a single postseason. The Brewers have won 103 games this season, leading the major leagues. They swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series and the San Diego Padres in the Division Series.

Tampa Bay finished the regular season with 98 wins, the most in the American League. They swept the New York Yankees in the Division Series and defeated the Cleveland Guardians in six games in the ALCS. However, they have never won a World Series in their 29 seasons. Their previous appearances in the finals ended in losses to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008 and the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020.

The game featured a unique atmosphere at Tropicana Field, which underwent major renovations after Hurricane Milton damaged the roof in 2024. A sellout crowd of 40,388 attended the game. Many Brewers fans gathered behind the visitors' dugout, creating a loud support base for the road team. Gasser noted the unusual dynamic of having such strong backing in an away venue.

Brandon Woodruff pitched the ninth inning for Milwaukee, allowing one run and two hits. It was his first appearance in three and a half months after recovering from a shoulder injury. The Brewers are managed by Pat Murphy, who is 67 years old. A win in Game 4 would make Milwaukee the first team to sweep both the LCS and the World Series since the Cincinnati Reds in 1976.
