US President Donald Trump issued a second public endorsement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday evening, asking voters to support the incumbent to complete ongoing military efforts.
In a post on Truth Social published hours before the election, Trump described Netanyahu as an "outstanding Warrior Prime Minister." He cited Operation Midnight Hammer and Operation Epic Fury as evidence of their shared success, stating the two leaders have been "winning together." The message concluded with a direct appeal: "Vote for Bibi Netanyahu for Prime Minister; we have to finish the job that we started!"
The post included a warning regarding the potential outcome if voters choose a different leader. "If Israel has the wrong leader, meaning anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this job itself, and I'm not inclined to do that," Trump wrote. The Jerusalem Post noted that this remark referenced the current confrontation with Iran.
This endorsement followed reports that Netanyahu intensified efforts to secure additional support from the White House earlier in the day. Two American sources told The Jerusalem Post that Netanyahu and his allies within Trump's inner circle increased pressure for new statements of support. One source described the prime minister's behavior, saying, "We have never seen Netanyahu like this before. He is showing signs of political desperation."
Axios provided further details on the recent contact between the two leaders. The news outlet reported that Trump and Netanyahu spoke twice over the preceding three days. According to an Israeli source briefed on the discussions, Netanyahu suggested specific wording for new endorsements and proposed that Trump speak directly with Israeli journalists to reaffirm his support.
The timing of the endorsement coincides with the final days before Israeli voters head to the polls. The statement combines praise for Netanyahu's leadership, a call for his re-election, and a forecast of US military involvement should his rival win the mandate.
Voters in Israel are scheduled to cast their ballots in the upcoming national election, a vote that will determine the next government and its relationship with Washington.
